In a futuristic, feudal Japan, tragedy strikes at a young age Joseph Akio Black, known as "Joe Black," loses his parents to a brutal murder shortly after his birth. Orphaned, he is taken under the wing of Grand Master Han. But time is not on their side.

Before their paths part, Joseph is entrusted with a mysterious box and given a quest: to reach the legendary Garden Temple, a place whose gates only the Chosen One may enter.

Accepting the task, Joseph prepares to walk many paths, facing the trials that await him as he journeys to restore peace and humanity to the world. Along the way, he uncovers the truth about his past and encounters powerful, unfamiliar foes-enemies willing to do anything to possess the Box.
